On April 6,2025 at approximately 2:05 P.M. the Corning Police Dept. notified the Clay County Sheriff’s Department that they had received a call of a bluish gray Chevrolet Tahoe all over Highway 135.

The vehicle was traveling North and had a Texas license. The Sheriffs Dept. waited at Corning Y for the vehicle. The vehicle passed the Sheriff’s Dept. and turned toward McDougal on U.S. 62.

The Sheriff’s Dept. followed the vehicle and observed it straying from its lane of traffic. A traffic stop was made on U.S. 62 about a 1/2 mile south of what is known as Red Hayes Curve.

When the officer came in contact with the driver, he could not speak English. The driver also had no I.D. When the officer got the driver out of the vehicle, he would not take his right hand out of his pants pocket. When the officer got his handcuffs out the driver shouted “no” and jumped back into the vehicle. The officer and driver struggled over the keys in the ignition, and control of the steering wheel. The driver eventually got the vehicle in drive and sped away.

The officer ran back to his vehicle and called dispatch to advise them he was in pursuit. The pursuit reached speeds of100 M.P.H. When the vehicle came into McDougal it turned North on a city street and came out of McDougal northbound on County Road 321 (Tram Road).

The vehicle was traveling approximately 70 M.P.H. when it hit water over the road. The Sheriff’s Dept. lost sight of the vehicle, but when the water came down the vehicle was sitting on the side of the road by the ditch. When the Sheriff’s Dept. got to the vehicle the driver was running in the water beside the ditch. The driver then jumped into the water and came out on the other side of the ditch. The field on the other side of the ditch was filled with water. The driver started Southeast trying to get across the field and kept falling down in the water. Before the subject could get across the water other units started arriving and surrounded the field. When the subject finally got across the field out of the water, he lay down in the mud. He eventually got up and started walking south toward McDougal.

At approximately 3:18 P.M. officers walked a ¼ mile across the muddy field, and had to tackle the subject to apprehend him.

21yr. old Edgar Gonzalez of Mexico was taken to the Clay County Detention Center and booked in on the following charges. Felony Fleeing, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia-Felony, Possession of Meth LT 2GM, Resisting Arrest, Reckless Driving, No Driver License, No insurance, Littering. I.C.E. was contacted by the Sheriff’s Dept. and a hold was placed on the subject to be picked up and deported.

The Sheriff Dept. was assisted by the Corning Police Dept.
