Melba Mae Oldham Christie, wife, mother, grandmother and devout Christian, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2025, at the age of 92 in Jonesboro, AR.
Melba was born in Hoxie, AR to Anna Katherine Stewart and Dee Everett Oldham. She spent much of her life in NE AR, moving to Blytheville after marrying, where she spent many years raising her family. As a young mother, she was a stay-at-home mom who was active in her children’s activities and was always someone her kids could go to for advice, love and comfort. She and her husband later moved to Paragould. Melba then decided to successfully pursue a nursing degree from ASU, graduating as a RN in 1985. She started her career at St. Bernards and ended it at AMMC when she became the primary caregiver for her husband first, and many relatives thereafter. Melba will always be remembered for her warmth, generosity and strength. She loved collecting antiques, reading, painting, and even tried her hand at learning the violin. She was also an excellent seamstress, outfitting her daughters with beautiful handmade clothes.
Melba was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Jack C. Christie, Sr., one grandson, Cade Allan Christie, one sister and four brothers.
She is survived by sons Jack Christie, Jr. of Little Rock, Allan Christie of Walnut Ridge, daughters Melanie Pouncey of Lawrenceville, GA, Elizabeth (Libby) Christie of Paragould, two grandsons, Erik Pouncey of Dunwoody, GA, Nicholas (Nick) Pouncey of Lawrenceville, GA, and several nieces and nephews.
