On Friday, March 14th, 2025 at approximately 9:00 PM, Stone County was placed under a tornado warning. Shortly after, just before 10:00 PM a powerful storm and tornado swept through portions of Stone County causing two non-life threatening injuries and abundant property damage. Although the storm caused significant damage in several areas, there has thankfully been no loss of life reported.
The Sheriff’s Office has multiple reports of damaged property and downed power lines along with fallen trees blocking roadways in conjunction with damaged homes and vehicles. In addition to deputies, emergency responders from multiple agencies have quickly responded and provided help to those in need.
While this storm travelled through many parts of the county, there was a heavy concentration of damage and destruction in the Onia and Fifty Six areas of Stone County. Work crews have been clearing roadways of fallen utility lines and downed trees all morning, and that work is continuing. Motorists should continue to use caution when driving in and around the areas impacted, and people should be aware of the dangers of entering badly damaged buildings and structures.
Deputies continue to be available to offer assistance as needed. If you have a friend or family member that is unreachable please call the Sheriff’s Office and provide that information so we can ensure they are ok.
The Stone County Sheriff’s Office would like to express its appreciation to all responding emergency service agencies and work crews.
