Gary Lee Sears of Walnut Ridge passed away January 16, 2025, at the age of 85. Born January 17, 1939, in Pocahontas, AR to Danny P. and Pauline Bennett Sears, he was a 1957 graduate of Hoxie High School. After high school he attended ASU at Beebe on a basketball scholarship for 2 years, then attended ASU in Jonesboro. He later graduated from the University of Arkansas College of Pharmacy at Little Rock.
He married the love of his life, Maggie Ruth Sears, on March 14, 1959. They bought The Prescription House in Walnut Ridge in January of 1970, and they operated it together for many, many years. He took care of the people who called him, even if it was midnight. He would say, “Meet me at the store in 10 minutes.” He was a beautiful soul that touched the community with his incredible ability to help the sick. God gave him this talent and he used it to the fullest.
In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing with friends and family, watching the Razorbacks, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was known by the ones he loved as Dad, Papaw, and Papaw Honeycakers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Danny P. and Pauline Bennett Sears, and his loyal buddy, pal and friend, Brody.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Maggie Ruth Sears; daughters Tammy Dawn Sears, Paula (Steve) Jackson, and Keri (Michael) O’Donohue; grandchildren Trey (Morgan) Ballard, Andrew (Christin) Ballard, Josh Ballard, Rachael (Joseph) Richardson, Steven Jackson, Will Jackson, Maggie Jackson, Ryan Caldwell, Amber (Peyton) Tillman, and Dallon O’Donohue; great-grandchildren Charlie Ballard, Landon Ballard, Holden Ballard, Piper Ballard, Zeppelin Ballard, Emma Richardson, J.B.
