A Federal Judge struck down key parts of an Arkansas law on Monday that would have allowed criminal charges to be brought against librarians and booksellers for providing “harmful” materials to minors.

U.S. District Judge Timothy Brooks ruled that elements of the law are unconstitutional.

This law would have created a process to challenge library materials and opened up the possibility of criminal charges against librarians and book retailers.

The measure was signed by Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders in 2023, an earlier ruling had temporarily blocked it from taking effect while it was being challenged in court.
