The wait is almost over, Northeast Arkansas anglers!

Lake Poinsett’s renovation is complete, and those newly-stocked fish have been feasting and growing for years and months now. We know you’ve been wondering when you can finally cast your line and reel in some keepers…

Well, thanks to a recent sampling effort on the lake, we can confirm that date is only a few weeks away! Crappie sampled this fall were on average 10 inches in length and weighed just over 1/2 pound. Biologists also observed quite a few nice Redear Sunfish like the ones pictured below.

Which means…! On January 1, 2025, anglers will be able to harvest 15 crappie per day (any length) and 10 Largemouth Bass per day, only one of which may be longer than 16 inches.

Looks like it’s time to start planning your New Year’s Day fishing trip! 🎣
