Maylon Edward (Ed) Dickey, of Clover Bend, passed away suddenly, Sunday, October 27, 2024, at the age of 74. Born August 13, 1950, in Florence, Alabama, to the late Harvey and Flora (Watkins) Dickey. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 34 years, Joann (Kallaugher) and his son Maylon Edward II; sisters Ophelia Kennedy Berrens and Mattie Liles of Alabama; brothers Madris and Billy of Florida; and Maynard of Kentucky.
He is survived by sisters Bonnie Osborn of Alabama, Bobbie Stauffer of Georgia, and Brenda Durlas of Missouri; grandchildren Hunter of Tennessee, Whitney of Missouri, and Taylor Novak and Hannah Dickey-Arnold, both of Arkansas; his great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A professional arborist since 1968 and widely known as the Tree Doctor, in partnership with his wife, Dickey held numerous patents in tree-saving technologies, innovative fertilizer formulations, and novel ways to administer them. He also protected hundreds of legacy trees across the Midwest by designing and installing lightning rod systems.
His creativity and entrepreneurial spirit extended to inventions and patents such as passive electricity generation and chemical cleanup.
Dickey’s other passion was music. The composer of over 1000 works, he owned Sugar Ridge Records since 1982. His songs, recorded by singers great and small, will be enjoyed by generations to come.
Interment will be private. In lieu of flower and Memorial donations could may be made to the American Cancer Society. 
Private interment of his ashes will be held in 2025.
