On the November ballot is a measure to reduce the milage rate for our libraries here in Lawrence County. If passed this would not only remove many current services the main library in Walnut Ridge provides but also close the library branches in both Imboden and Lynn.

All Lawrence County library locations provide free Wi-fi and computer usage. The Summer Reading Program, children’s story time, tutoring and study spaces, print, fax capabilities at reasonable prices not to mention books , movies, and magazines FREE to check out.

While false information is being circulated based on opinions about the cuts, the Library Board of Trustees has released facts that explain how the reduced funding would affect Lawrence County library patrons.

The Lawrence County Library currently receives the majority of funding for the main Walnut Ridge location, the Driftwood (Lynn) Branch, and the Bobbie Jean Memorial Library (Imboden) Branch through the current 2 mil (milage) property tax. Lawrence County has tax supported a public library since 1942.

The following is how the measure will appear on the ballot. A vote AGAINST will keep the current funding.

Vote for One:
FOR decreasing by one(1) mill the current two(2) mill tax levied on all real and personal property for the operation and maintenance of the Lawrence County Library

AGAINST decreasing by one(1) mill the current two(2) mill tax levied on all real and personal property for the operation and maintenance of the Lawrence County Library
