Sloan-Hendrix high school teacher, Dylan Scott Richmond, who is charged with having an “inappropriate relationship with a student” has been arrested on child sexual abuse charges.

On Oct. 1st, 2024 a bench warrant was issued for Dylan Richmond on 15 charges.

Sexual assault in the first degree, six charges of producing , directing, or promoting a sexual performance by a child, Internet stalking of a child, six charges of distributing, possessing, or viewing of matter depicting sexually explicit conduct involving a child, and Computer exploitation of a child. All felony charges. Dylan Richmond is being held in the Lawrence County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing

Sloan-Hendrix Superintendent Clifford Rorex issued the following statement:

On Monday, September 9, Sloan-Hendrix Administrators were informed that a teacher was engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a student. School officials promptly placed the teacher on leave and notified law enforcement. The Child Maltreatment Hotline and the Professional Licensure Board were also notified of the allegations.
Based on the District’s investigation, the teacher’s contract has been recommended for termination to the Sloan-Hendrix School Board. The teacher is entitled to a hearing before the Board. This procedure is required by law before any further action to be taken.
School officials are limited in disclosing further details, but can report that the teacher will not return to campus. School employees are always expected to conduct themselves professionally, and the District will not tolerate any employee behavior that harms a student. The Sloan-Hendrix School District will continue to use its best efforts to provide students with a safe and healthy educational environment.
