Black Rock Police Department has added new technology it is department, as Chief Archer tells us, “it’s another tool in the tool bag” for not only Black Rock but other agencies in the area.
The TruNarc Handheld Narcotics Analyzer is a handheld spectrometer that can detect Controlled substances, cutting agents, and precursors including: heroin, synthetic drugs on leaf materials or blotter paper.
Chief Archer explained the TruNarc system goes hand-in-hand with the department’s K-9. The BRPD K-9 officer is a resource that other departments in Lawrence County can request for assistance.
This technology is also an advantage in officer safety, this way officers on a traffic stop can quickly identify the controlled substances and properly handle them.
Chief Archer recently received his training and certification in using the device.
Chief Archer stated the devices are accurate, results are quick, findings may be used in court and it cuts down on the expense of test kits.
