The Stone County Sheriff’s Office has conducted interviews and served search warrants at two locations.
Evidence has been collected, statements gathered, and one suspect, Steven Alan Gill, age 60, of Luber has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault, and endangering the welfare of a minor in the second degree.
Shortly after the shooting deputies detained Gill for questioning. As the investigation continued well into the night and early morning hours, detectives found that the evidence collected was conflicting with Gills’ statements leading to his arrest.
Detectives have worked tirelessly all weekend, and this investigation is still ongoing. Charges may be increased, changed, or additional charges added pending the conclusion of the investigation and review of the case by the prosecuting attorney. All final charges are filed by the prosecutors office, and all bonds are set by judge. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
As your Sheriff, I want to remind you all that this incident is upsetting, but making threats of harm is not the answer. Your Sheriffs Office is working diligently to ensure that justice is served. We will not tolerate threats of harm to any person. We will protect and serve all our citizens equally. Pray for the victims and the families involved in this case and for our county.
