Authorities in Marion County are reporting the arrest of Tamantha McPherson, age 58 in connection with two children that got sick after eating marijuana gummies.
Tamantha McPherson is charged with two counts of introduction of a controlled substance into the body of another and two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor.
According to court documents, on April 3, 2024, the parents of a two-year-old girl had picked her up from McPherson’s residence, where they were in daycare, and noticed that the child was acting off, and different from normal.
When the parents took her to the hospital, doctors ran tests and told the parents the child had marijuana in her system. The parents told police that they did not keep marijuana in their home and stated that McPherson does not have permission to give the child any form of medication without their consent.
Then on April 5th, authorities got another call about a second daycare victim. These parents also told authorities when they picked up their 15-month-old boy from the daycare, he was not acting right.
The parents took the child to a pediatrician who did a blood test. The result came back positive for marijuana. The parents told investigators there was no marijuana in their home.
When interviewed, McPherson told authorities that she takes THC gummies and stores them in the kitchen area, the same area where the daycare kids are located, eating, and playing.
McPherson told investigators there are around eight kids at the daycare.
