Trout Management Program, Jim Hinkle Spring River State Fish Hatchery, and Norfork National Fish Hatchery staff conducted a sample on Spring River this week. Sampling yielded plenty of catchable size (11-12 inches) Rainbow Trout, and a few nice Brown Trout were collected as well (the largest measured 23 inches and weighed 5.6 pounds).
They also collected a number of Largemouth Bass and Smallmouth Bass that varied in size throughout the sample. The water was still up from recent rain in the watershed, but Smallmouth Bass seemed to be hunkered down below cascades and rocky structures along the river, and Largemouth Bass utilized vegetation and other cover along shorelines. They also collected a nice Walleye below Dam 3!
Even during periods of higher water and lower visibility, Spring River continues to provide a diverse array of fishing opportunities for anglers!
