A Craighead Count mother is facing several charges after she allegedly forced her 7 year old son to walk nearly 8 miles to school after missing the bus.
Amber Nicole Thompson, age 33, told Craighead County deputies that it was “not her problem” if her child had to walk miles to get to school.
Tuesday, a Craighead County Deputy was dispatched to an area where the young child was found walking along road. The boy told the deputy that he was sent to bed without eating dinner the night before after he “got in trouble” for not watching his younger sibling.
The boy stated his mother told him to set an alarm and get up and get ready for school because “she wasn’t going to” according to the affidavit.
The child told the deputy that he had missed the bus, and he started walking to school. The boy also told deputies he had not eaten breakfast.
Deputies found the mother still asleep in one of the bedrooms at the home.
Thompson stated to deputies her child was old enough to get himself up and ready for school, saying “it was not her problem” if the child walked to school, according to the report.
Thompson was arrested and charged Wednesday with 2nd degree domestic battery and 1st degree endangering the welfare of a minor.
Thompson posted a $50,000 bond and is expected to appear in court in May.
