The Jonesboro Police Department is releasing further information about the shooting incident that occurred Sunday morning, March 10, 2024.

Officers responded in the early morning hours to 641 Burke Avenue after the Jonesboro E911 Dispatch Center received multiple calls in regards to a shooting. Two deceased individuals were discovered on the property, and a third person died at a local hospital. The deceased were identified as 20-year-old Amari Giles and 24-year-old Dwight Starks. A third victim, 27-year-old Daja Giles, was transported to a level-one trauma center for further treatment. An additional four victims sought treatment at local hospitals for apparent gunshot wounds sustained during the shooting.

During the investigation, detectives determined that 32-year-old Tarail Moody was the aggressor and opened fire inside the establishment, killing Starks and injuring several others. Moody then proceeded to the front entryway of the building and shot Amari and Daja Giles. Based on multiple witness accounts and evidence found on the scene, our detectives determined that Moody then turned the gun on himself and died at the scene.

The deceased were sent to the State Crime Lab, and a preliminary report from the Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that Tarail Moody did, in fact, die from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

During the chaotic response from those in attendance to the initial shooting, the suspect’s weapon was taken by unknown persons.

This investigation is ongoing, and detectives are focusing on more witnesses and videos that may provide more information on this incident.
