Obituary
Anna Sue Smith, 91, of Imboden went to be with the Lord on December 28, 2023 at the
Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould, AR. Sue was born December 19, 1932 to Ulysses “Lish” and Lena (Poe) Depriest in Imboden. She was united in marriage to Oliver Smith on January 26, 1951.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters Bobbie(Ralph) Jean and Bonnie DePriest, and a brother Larry DePriest.
Mrs. Smith took on many roles throughout her bountiful life. She graduated from Sloan-Hendrix
School in 1950 where she showed cattle and played on the basketball team. She worked as a
4-H Program Assistant for the Lawrence County Extension Office and Daycare Director for
Southern Baptist College and later Williams Baptist College. She was active in church
throughout her adult life, showing her Christian servant’s heart wherever she could from serving
on committees to teaching classes and was a member of the Pocahontas First United Methodist Church at the time of her death. She loved raising cattle with her family and living on the farm her and Oliver built together. Her “greatest” roles however, most would say, were centered around family. She was a dedicated wife, mother, “Mamaw,” and “Granny,” and her door was always open to those she cared about, usually accompanied with a big hug and a delicious smell coming from the kitchen. She loved to cook, garden, sew, watch classic game shows, and watch the cows in her pasture. Anyone that knew her loved her and praised her strength, feisty nature, loving spirit, and boisterous personality.
Sue is survived by two sons, Mike (Nancy) Smith of Bentonville, Mark (Ann) Smith of Grosse
Pointe, MI, and a daughter Melinda (Warren) Williams of Imboden. She is also survived by five
grandchildren, Gina (Matt) Easterling of Pea Ridge, Jared (Jessica) Smith of Bentonville, Katie(Bubba) Crouch of Imboden, Sean (Jennifer) Kimbro of Charlotte, NC, and Joseph (Amanda)Faucett of North Little Rock, along with seven great grandchildren and numerous loving friends and relatives. The family will be conducting a private graveside service. Due to family medical situations, a public memorial service will be announced at a later date.
