An early morning pursuit began In Lawrence County after sheriff’s deputies attempted to stop a grey Chevrolet Cruze on Hwy 63 shortly after 4am on Thursday.
A check of the vehicles license plate showed it to be stolen out of Randolph County.
The pursuit traveled Hwy 63 south to Hwy 117 where they turned back toward Smithville. Law enforcement detailed how the vehicle was driving at speeds of 80-85mph and driving into oncoming traffic.
Sharp County officials and Cave City Police were notified as the pursuit entered Sharp County around 4:30am.
The chase was joined by Sharp and CCPD officers as it turned on US-167 back toward Evening Shade.
Officers were able to get in front of the pursuit and deploy spike strips which were successful. Officers had attempted several PIT maneuvers but were unsuccessful due to the driver attempting to “break-check” officers and the extremely hazardous manner of driving by the suspect.
Once the vehicle was disabled, the subject was taken into custody by Lawrence County officials.
The driver of the stolen vehicle has not been identified at this time.
During his transport, the suspect claimed he was sick after swallowing a large amount of Meth.
Officers stopped at a Sharp County hospital to have the suspect medically checked out, the suspect refused medical treatment and was then transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center to face formal charges.
The stolen vehicle was recovered. We will follow up if any additional information is released.
