Baxter County authorities are investigating after an inmate at the Baxter County Detention Center died after being sent to the hospital.

Authorities say on the morning of January 6th, detention staff noticed Larry Babin, age 51, had not moved in his cell for some time.

He was found alive and breathing but not responsive. Babin was taken to a local hospital, where he later passed away.

Court documents show Babin was arrested on December 30, 2023, on traffic violations, DWI, and a misdemeanor warrant from the Baxter County District Court.

Babin was scheduled to appear in court on January 11th.

The Arkansas State Police were requested to assist with the investigation.

The body has been sent to the Arkansas State Medical Examiner’s Office in Little Rock for autopsy to determine cause and manner of death.
