On Friday, December 22nd, at approximately 10:00 PM, a Stone County Deputy attempted a traffic stop on a 2010 Honda Civic. After briefly pulling to the right side of the roadway, the Civic fled reaching speeds in excess of 90 miles per hour. Stone County Deputies pursued and were assisted by the Mountain View Police Department and Arkansas State Police. Attempts were made to spike the vehicles tires without result. After the suspects’ vehicle evaded spike strips, Arkansas State Police took lead in the pursuit that ended just inside Independence County with the vehicle leaving the roadway and colliding into an embankment.

     The driver, identified as Caleb Brady Gurley, 27 of Decatur Alabama and a female passenger identified as Stephanie Brett 29, was transported to the White River Medical Center on non-life-threatening injuries. Gurley was later discharged and transported to the Stone County Detention Center where he was booked on numerous charges. In addition to Gurley’s new charges, he was wanted for other outstanding warrants. To date a Judge has not set a bond for Gurley.

  • AGGRAVATED ASSAULT, A CLASS “D” FELONY
  • DRIVING WHILE INTOXICATED, A CLASS “A’ MISDEMEANOR
  • DRIVING ON A SUSPENDED DRIVERS LICENSE, A CLASS “A”    MISDEMEANOR
  • POSSESSION OF DRUG PARPAHENRLAIA, A CLASS “A” MISDEMEANOR
  • POSSESSION OF A SCHEDULE VI CONTROLLED SUSBTANCE LESS THAN 4 oz, A CLASS “A” MISDEMEANOR
  • UNRELATED OUTSTANDING WARRANTS

     This investigation is ongoing with Arkansas State Police and the Stone County Sheriff’s Office. The Stone County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Independence County Sheriff’s Office, Mountain View Police Department and the Arkansas State Police for their assistance. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
