Tommy Paul Young, born January 22, 1956, passed away on December 2, 2023. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Annieville. Born in Thayer, Missouri, he grew up in the hills of Salem, Arkansas where he sang and played music on the square as a kid with many family members and his dad, Bill Young. He was a lifelong musician playing acoustic and electric guitar, mandolin, and other instruments, but most known for his fast pickin’ and grinnin’ on the banjo.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sheryl Dervan Young, whom he married on November 30, 1974; his son, Thomas (Lisa) Young; daughters, Jessica (Jason) Marik, and Sommer Ferrell; seven grandchildren, Zane, Jaci, Halli, Gabriel, Henry, Sophia, and Fallon; three great grandchildren, Zachary, Isaac, and Theo; siblings, Wilma Jean, Cordia Lee, Doris, Mary Ann, Joyce Gail, Ellen, Faron, Terry Joe, and Clarence; and many other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Bonnie Young; brothers, Orgel, Calvin, Coy, and Alvin Lee.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 6, 2023; at the Bryan Funeral Home Chapel from 1:00 PM till 4:00 PM.
