On Sunday afternoon October 1st, 2023, the Clay County Sheriff’s department was notified about a Facebook post that threatened violence with a .45 caliber handgun toward the general public traveling Hwy 211 Northwest of Success. The individual who made the threat lived in the Success area. The Sheriff’s Department started an investigation into the matter. The Sheriff’s Department found that the individual was a convicted felon and was on probation out of Missouri.
The Sheriff’s Department contacted Arkansas Probation and Parole to see who was supervising him. The Sheriff’s Department was advised that Arkansas had no record of him transferring to Arkansas and was not supervised.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Department contacted Missouri Probation and Parole and was advised that they knew nothing about him living in Arkansas that he was not supposed to be in Arkansas.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Department obtained a search warrant for 2571 Hwy 211 outside of Success. The Sheriff’s Department executed the search on October 3rd at approximately 3:50 pm. The Sheriff’s Department did not find a weapon but found several recently fired empty .45 caliber shell casings in the yard and .45 caliber ammunition in the house.
During the search of the house several drug-related items were found in plain view. The Clay Sheriff’s Department arrested 40-year-old Alex Ross Shelton. He was transported to the Clay County Detention Center and booked on the following charges. Possession of Methamphetamine and Felony Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Shelton also has past charges out of Randolph County, Clay County, Greene County and Craighead County.
