From the Clay County Sheriff’s Office:
The Clay County Sheriff’s Department was notified at approximately 6:00 pm on 09/15/23 by Poplar Bluff MO Police Department to be on the lookout for a black metallic Dodge Avenger with two black females.
Poplar Bluff said they were in pursuit of them but terminated their pursuit. They asked if we come in contact with them to stop and hold them for Poplar Bluff Police Department. Poplar Bluff said the females had got caught stealing from Carter’s in Poplar Bluff and fled. A Deputy went North of Corning to the intersection of US 67 and Highway 328 to watch for the subjects.
At approximately 6:13 pm the vehicle was observed by the Deputy southbound on US 67. The Deputy tried to make a traffic stop on the vehicle and the vehicle fled. The vehicle went through the intersection of US 62 and US 67 in Corning and headed east on US 62 out of Corning with the Sheriff’s Department and Corning Police Department in pursuit.
The pursuit traveled east through McDougal headed toward Pollard. The Sheriff’s Department deployed spike strips at the highway bridge by New Hope Church on US 62 just west of Pollard. The pursued vehicle ran over the spike strips with the left side of the vehicle. The pursuit went through Pollard and ended about a mile east of Pollard on US 62 when the left tires started coming off the vehicle. Officers blocked them in, and the driver of the vehicle tried to hit a deputy’s truck. Officers then approached the vehicle and removed both subjects and placed them in custody.
The two females were transported to the Clay County Detention Center where they were booked in on the following charges.
The driver Demertria Davis, 46-year-old from Blytheville AR, was charged with fleeing, driving on suspended driver’s license, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of schedule VI LT 4 oz, theft by receiving and aggravated assault.
Passenger Starnita Brown, 40-year-old from Blytheville AR, was charged with fleeing, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of schedule VI LT 4 oz and theft by receiving.
Agencies involved in the pursuit were the Clay County Sheriff’s Department, Corning Police Department and Arkansas State Police.
