Law enforcement arrested a suspect after they say a child was abducted in Mammoth Spring on Saturday, Aug. 19th around 10 a.m.

Sharp County Dispatch received a call regarding a male, later identified as Charlie Martin, entered a restaurant, allegedly assaulted a male, then kidnapped an infant child.

Authorities say Martin and an unidentified passenger left the restaurant in a pickup at a high rate of speed.

Law enforcement searched for the vehicle and located it in the Hardy area and conducted a traffic stop.

Sharp County Sheriff’s deputies and Hardy PD approached the vehicle and found the suspects inside, one of them in the passenger seat holding the missing child.

Authorities say Martin began to drive away an officer jumped into the window of the truck and safely removed the baby.

The suspects then drove away and a pursuit occurred.

When the pursuit was near Ozark Acres , the Arkansas State Police initiated a Tactical Vehicle Intervention.

Once stopped the suspects ran from the vehicle, the passenger ran into the nearby woods and Martin “displayed a handgun by placing it to the side of his head” according to a media release.

Following a short standoff with law enforcement near Vagabon Road, Sheriff Russell of Sharp County negotiated with the driver to unarm himself and turn himself in.

Martin was transported to a local hospital to be treated for minor injuries and will be held at the Sharp County Detention Center.

The passenger was not pursued by law enforcement as they were “not a danger to the public” and not directly involved in the incidents.
