Neil Simon’s classic “Barefoot in the Park” will be staged this summer at Downtown Playhouse in Pocahontas. The comedy opens July 15 and runs through mid-August.
Corie and Paul Bratter are a newlywed couple. For their first home, they live in an apartment on the top floor of a brownstone in New York City. Corie is optimistic about their future together, while Paul, the more anxious and grounded half of the couple, worries about the various flaws in the apartment, such as a hole in the skylight, their leaky closet and the lack of a bathtub.
Shortly after moving in, Corie attempts to set her mother up with their eccentric neighbor, Mr. Velasco. During the course of four days, the couple learns to live together while facing the usual daily ups-and-downs, as Corie works to make Paul more easy-going: for example, to run “barefoot in the park.”
Many people remember the movie version of “Barefoot in the Park,” which starred Jane Fonda and Robert Redford in their first on-screen roles.
The play is directed by Kelly Grooms and sponsored by Anderson Refrigeration. It will be staged July 15, 16, 21, 22, 28 and 29, and August 4, 5, 11, 12 and 13.
Tickets are $25, which includes dessert & drink, tax included. Those attending can choose their dessert from key lime pie, turtle pie, honey bun cake, and sugar free parfait, plus a variety of drink choices listed on the theater’s website: www.thedowntownplayhouse.com
