On Saturday, June 3, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., park staff will teach participants how to make a necklace, bracelet or earrings from pearls. Freshwater pearls from the bottom of the Black River have been a large part of Powhatan’s local history. Park interpreters will talk about the history of the freshwater pearling industry on the Black River. The pearls to be used in the workshop crafts were not harvested from the Black River. The registration fee varies – $25 for a necklace, $15 for a bracelet and $10 for earrings. Space is limited
