The National Transportation Safety Board filed a report on Friday, May 12th stating that 67-year-old Steven Douglas Gill died in the crash and was the pilot and the only person on board.
Gill was reportedly flying into Sharp County for a court appearance in a rape case.
The plane crashed into a rock wall just north of Gut Creek, between Hardy and Mammoth Spring.
According to reports Gill may have had suicidal thoughts allegedly telling people he was not going to jail.
Witnesses say they saw him circle over the rock wall and then nosedive into the wall.
NTSB reports the flight controls were examined, and it was determined there weren’t any pre-impact anomalies and that the flight control continuity was confirmed.
