The heavy rainfall and localized flooding that occurred on Monday left numerous streets impassable in the Walnut Ridge and Hoxie area.
Once the rainfall began, several reports came in of Main Street in Walnut Ridge near the 67-B intersection being flooded. Shortly after similar reports of flooding in the Old Pocahontas Road, Midway Road, Free Street and Texas Street were reported.
One vehicle and its occupants was swept away by high water in the Paradise Road area, the occupants were able to swim to safety. One non-life threatening injury was reported in that incident.
Law enforcement from WRPD and Hoxie PD were busy throughout the night closing off flooded streets and responding to several reports of water entering homes.
City employees were called in to put up barricades around the city to prevent vehicles from entering flooded streets.
Reports of stalled vehicles in the roadways continued to come in until the rain subsided and flood waters receded.
