Authorities say a Izard County man who arrived to a Trunk or Treat event intoxicated was arrested after allegedly yelling at a child before becoming involved in a fight with other adults.
On Oct. 29, authorities were called to a trunk or treat around 7 p.m. on Fairview Street in Melbourne for a reported fight in progress.
When law enforcement arrived, they discovered several individuals on the ground behind a vehicle holding a male suspect on the ground.
Brock Handyside, age 21, was yelling profanities while being detained, officers observed the strong smell of intoxicants coming from Handyside.
Handyside continued to resist and would not comply with the officer’s commands.
Handyside became uncooperative when authorities tried to place him in the patrol vehicle.
Handyside then began kicking the driver’s side rear door of the patrol vehicle causing damage to it.
Witnesses stated Handyside had arrived at the event and began yelling at one of the children.
When approached and requested to stop, Handyside became belligerent and punched one of the victims in the face.
A second victim came to assist in restraining Handyside when he began biting the first victim and the second victim sustained minor injuries that appeared to be scratches inflicted by the suspect.
Estimates obtained by authorities regarding the damage to the vehicle amounted to $2,064.17.
Handyside was arrested and charged with criminal mischief in the first degree, a class D felony; two counts of battery in the third degree, resisting arrest and public intoxication.
His bond was set at $10,000.
