Arrest Announced By Arkansas State Police In Dumas Shooting
The Arkansas State Police stated on Wednesday they have arrested a man suspected in the Saturday shooting at a car show in Dumas that sent 27 people to the hospital with injuries and left another dead.
Authorities have arrested Brandon Deandra Knight age 22 of Jacksonville as the suspect was being released from a Dumas hospital on Wednesday morning.
Knight is charged with 1st degree battery and aggravated assault.
He is currently being held in the Dumas City Jail awaiting his court appearance on Thursday, March 24th.
Arkansas State Police stated the case is still active and no further information will be released at this time.
Authorities say 28 victims in total were taken to area hospitals. Children who were injured ranged in age from 19 months to 11 years old according to authorities.
Of the 28 victims, one man was killed and 27 people were wounded in the shooting.
Cameron Schaffer, 23, of Jacksonville was identified as the person who died.
Authorities say Schaffer was not involved in any of the activity leading up to the incident, including the gunfire.
Early reports stated that a motive in the shooting may have been gang-related. However, It appeared that it was two people involved in a gunfight that led to the situation according to updated reports from ASP.
