At approximately 8pm on Sunday March 6th a trained storm spotter, employed with the Sharp County Sheriff’s Office, spotted a tornado on the ground in the Bear Creek Road area in Evening Shade. A short time later, Sharp County 911 Dispatch received numerous 911 calls regarding tornado damage and injuries.
A home on Jack School House Road, near the the Sharp/Izard County line, was blown into the county road and completely destroyed. Four residents inside the home were injured. Several other homes in the area sustained damage from the high winds and trees.
The Sharp County Sheriff’s Department, Sharp County Department Of Emergency Management and road department, Arkansas Forestry Department, Spring River Ambulance, Evening Shade Fire Department, Sidney Fire Department, Cave City Fire/Police Department, Zion Fire Department, Arkansas State Police, and the Arkansas Game and Fish all responded to the area. Once in the area, first responders encountered numerous trees completely blocking all the roads in the area.
Five people were injured during the storm but all injuries were believe to be non-life threatening. The Sharp County Sheriff’s Department would like to thank all the first responders as well as North Arkansas Electric Cooperative and the residents of the area that came out and assisted in treating the injured and clearing the roadways.
