Authorities are reporting that an Arkansas Department of Correction sergeant was fatally shot on Monday morning while assisting a local law enforcement agency in central Arkansas.
According to Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were responding to a residential disturbance at a home in Maumelle.
The Department of Correction sergeant was a member of a K9 team assisting local authorities.
Police stated someone fled from the home and the tracking dog led authorities to a nearby trailer.
Authorities stated a person opened fire on officers from underneath the trailer.
The sergeant was struck and killed.
Several nearby schools were locked down as a precaution.
The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office identified a person of interest as 37-year-old Demark Lee Jordan.
Deputies described Jordan as a man standing 5 feet 11 inches and weighing 145 pounds with brown eyes and black hair. Deputies say he could be driving a gray 2012 GMC Sierra with the license plate number 345YNJ.
