The Downtown Playhouse in Pocahontas is set to stage its first production since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. The theater will reopen July 10 with the popular musical, Always…Patsy Cline.

Always…Patsy Cline is a musical based on the true story of Patsy Cline’s friendship with a fan from Houston named Louise Seger, who befriended the star in a Texas honky-tonk in 1961. The two continued their friendship until Cline’s death.

The show is a tribute to the legendary country singer who died tragically in a plane crash in 1963 at the age of 30. The musical play, complete with down-home country humor and true emotion includes many of Cline’s hits such as Crazy, I Fall to Pieces, Sweet Dreams and Walking After Midnight.

The show’s title was inspired by Cline’s letters to Seger, which were consistently signed “Love Always…Patsy Cline.” Always…Patsy Cline has been one of the most produced musicals in America.

Vicki Bishop and Carol Belford-Lewallen are reprising their roles from previous productions as Patsy and Louise, respectively.  The play is sponsored by Anderson Refrigeration, and it is directed by Kelly Grooms.

Always…Patsy Cline will be staged July 10, 16, 17, 18, 23, 24, 25, 30 and 31, and August 1, 6, 7 and 8.  Tickets are $25 and can be ordered by phone at (870) 758-2282. Season tickets for both 2020 and 2021 will be honored, but season ticket holders will still need to call and reserve their seats.

Dessert and beverage are included with the cost of admission.  Desserts options will include: Louisiana Crunch Cake, Strawberry Creme Pie, Turtle Pie and Sugar-Free Jello Parfait. A wide array of coffee, cappuccino, tea and soft drink options are available.  Those attending will need to specify their dessert and beverage choices when they make reservations.
