Around 11 a.m., on Wednesday, June 17, search and rescue personnel discovered the remains of lost hiker Thomas Reid in the Sneeds Creek drainage area within the Ponca Wilderness area of Buffalo National River, south of Compton.

Reid had been missing since Saturday when he reportedly injured a knee, another hiker with Reid left to get help and when they returned Reid was nowhere to be found.

NPS stated as with all fatalities that occur within the park, an investigation will be completed by the National Park Service to determine cause of death. 

The National Park Service thanks the public for providing tips to aid the search for Reid.

National Parks Service officials are searching for a missing man near the Buffalo National River.
Thomas Reid, 65, of West Memphis, Ark. was last seen on the Sneeds Creek trail around 5 p.m. Saturday, June 13.
Reid is described as 6 feet tall and weighs around 185 pounds. He has gray hair and a gray beard. Branch

The Newton County Sheriff’s Office and Arkansas State Police have joined in on the search. If you have seen Reid, call the National Parks Service.
