At 8:14 pm a Lawrence County Deputy was checking the the welfare of a subject at the 2200 block of Hwy 117 near Smithville after family members called the Lawrence County Dispatch reporting he had not been heard from in several days. The deputy arrived on scene and reported a male victim with a cut to his upper throat and hand.
ProMed ambulance was requested to the scene, the victim was said to be in distress but still alive. At 8:23pm the Smithville Fire Department was on scene, a medical helicopter was requested to the scene but declined to fly due to inclement weather.
Reports from the scene stated the male had fell and received cuts to his lower jaw/upper neck area and hand. The victim was believed to have been laying there for some 24 hours according to responders on the scene. The subject was said to be in respiratory distress but alive at the time first responders arrived.
At this time the incident is being described as some type of accidental injury.
The unidentified male subject was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital at 8:57 after medics attempted to stabilize the patient for transport.
