Shortly after 5 pm on Tuesday , Lawrence County dispatch received a call reporting a subject that appeared to be breaking into a storage unit in Imboden. Deputies responded and found 27 year old Dusten Haynes of Black Rock attempting to gain entry using a saw blade, a device to pry with, and a propane torch.
Haynes explained to the deputy that he had been given a key to the storage unit by a relative but had lost the key. That story was confirmed by LC deputies but the suspect admitted to damaging the building while trying to remove the lock. A burgundy Chevrolet SUV was parked at the scene and Haynes who admitted driving the vehicle to the storage units had a suspended drivers license. Haynes was also currently on bond for charges of theft of property and felon in possession of a firearm stemming from a March 2019 arrest.
Haynes was charged with criminal mischief 1st degree as well as driving on suspended. He was arrested and taken to the Lawrence County detention center to face arraignment.
