As Williams Baptist University celebrates its transition from college to university, the US Postal Service is planning a special stamp cancellation.  Postal Service representatives will be on hand for WBU’s opening convocation on Wednesday, Aug. 22, to cancel envelopes with a postmark created especially for the occasion.

As a community service, the Postal Service offers pictorial postmarks to commemorate local events celebrated in communities throughout the nation.  People attending these local events may obtain the postmark in person at the temporary Post Office station established there.

The convocation ceremony will be WBU’s first official event as a university, and the occasion will mark the completion of its transition.  The event will be held in the university’s Manley Chapel at 11:00 a.m., with Williams President Dr. Stan Norman the keynote speaker.  The public is invited.

The Post Office will set up a temporary station in the lobby of Manley Chapel and will cancel envelopes with the commemorative postmark before and after the convocation service.  The USPS will also sell envelopes with Celebrate stamps at the event.

Williams is a Christian, liberal arts university in Walnut Ridge.  It announced its transition from college to university last September, and it has completed the process this summer.
