On August 27, 2017 Andre Covington, black male 28yo from Jonesboro, was arrested by the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office. At approximately 10pm on the 27th deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call in Black Rock.
Upon arrival deputies heard voices coming from the rear of the residence. When they proceeded to the back of the residence they could hear what sounded like a person gasping for air and a commotion of some sort. Upon entering a screened in porch area deputies observed Covington choking a female subject with both hands. The victim appeared unable to breath as Covington screamed at her. At that point Covington was taken into custody by the deputies and transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center.
A check of Covington’s criminal history revealed previous charges for domestic violence. Covington is being held in the Lawrence County Jail awaiting a bond hearing for the charges of Aggravated Assault on a Family or Household Member and Domestic Battery 3rd Degree.
