Lawrence County Deputies responded to the 200 block of North Walnut Street on Monday shortly after 6:30 pm. Lawrence County Dispatch received a 911 call reporting a male subject assaulting a female subject in the yard of a residence.

Officers arrived to find the victim standing across the road, after interviewing the victim and checking for serious injury the officers entered the residence and found 25 year old Derek Walker of Imboden inside. Walker was arrested and according to witnesses began verbally abusing the officers and then became violent as the officers attempted to put him in the patrol vehicle at one point pushing one officer to the ground and biting yet another person.

Walker was then transported to the Lawrence County Jail and charged with two counts of Felony Assault and Resisting Arrest.

The female victim stated to witnesses that he became upset and threw her to the ground and at one point bit her on the face. She was interviewed and released by officers. Walker was later taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital for treatment of a cut he reportedly inflicted on himself earlier.

Derek Walker has an extensive criminal history including several violent charges both in Randolph and Lawrence counties.  In November 2016 Walker was charged with theft of property, residential burglary, defacing a firearm, criminal mischief and breaking an entering.  In August 2014 he was arrested for battery  3rd degree and criminal mischief . in November 2010 he was charged with battery 3rd degree.

Walker is currently in the Lawrence County jail awaiting a bond hearing.
