Shortly after 8 am, Arkansas State Troopers made contact with a female on Hwy 63 on top of the Black River Bridge at Black Rock threatening to jump from the bridge.
Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office along with a medical unit from AET Ambulance were dispatched to the scene. As more officers arrived the female was seen by witnesses pacing across the roadway as law enforcement attempted to talk the woman into surrendering. Arkansas State Parks Rangers arrived on scene and began assisting with the efforts of the Arkansas State Police and Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office.
The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Dive Team was place on standby in case the woman jumped from the bridge, rescue boats were in the water within minutes.
As a Ranger from the Arkansas State Parks distracted the female, Lawrence County Sheriff Jeff Yates was able to subdue the female after a tense standoff. At 8:56 am the all clear was given, the female was taken into custody and transported to the Lawrence County Jail for evaluation.
No names have been released, no injuries were reported in the incident. Traffic was stopped for a short while as emergency personnel were on the bridge.
