Sharp County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two people in connection with an incident earlier where a deputy was nearly hit by a fleeing vehicle. According to a press release Deputy Cody Bailey was trying to arrest a 35 year old Sara Phelps for violation of a protection order. Phelps reportedly got into the passenger seat of a Chevy Tahoe driven by 27 year old Jared Johnson of Hardy when Johnson attempted to run over Deputy Bailey. The deputy drew his weapon and shot at the vehicle while attempting to get out of the vehicles path. The vehicle then fled the area. As Police searched, Deputy Ashton Hester spotted the vehicle on Hwy 58 near Williford. The vehicle was then abandoned at the end of Cambell Rd. The two suspects were discovered about 3 miles along the Spring River.
Johnson and Phelps were both arrested and charges will be pressed on both in the incident. The incident is still under investigation by the Arkansas State Police and Sharp County Sheriff’s Office.
