At 2:05 pm on Saturday the Lawrence County Dispatch received several 911 calls reporting a barn on fire in the 1800 block of Hwy 115 near Smithville. Imboden and Smithville Fire Departments were paged to the fire.
At 2:09 pm firefighters checked on scene and advised other units that the fire was threatening a house and a wooded area. Imboden responded with an engine from it’s Annieville Substation and two trucks from it’s main station in Imboden. Smithville responded with it’s brush truck as well.
Once on scene firefighters were ale to suppress the fire and keep it from causing further damage. The Arkansas Forestry was requested to the scene at 2:15 pm by Chief Jim Jones. Jones reported they had the fire under control but wanted the Arkansas Forestry to take a look at the wooded area to ensure it was extinguished.
Imboden and Smithville Fire Departments were on scene until 3:34 pm, no other structures were lost to the fire. The origin of the fire is unknown. Winds were reported at 14-15 mph and gusting at the time of the fire making the blaze spread easily in the dry conditions.
