At 5:55 pm on Wednesday evening the Lawrence County Dispatch received a frantic 911 call from a passenger of an overturned vehicle involved in an accident on Hwy 412 near the Hwy 67 intersection.

The caller advised a handicapped male was still trapped inside the vehicle and was up to his neck in water. Walnut Ridge Fire Department along with medical units and officers from both the Hoxie Police Department and Walnut Ridge Police Department were dispatched to the area.

The female victim said she was not sure of their exact location, dispatchers worked with law enforcement and fire trucks to activate sirens so the victim could hear units approaching. After a few minutes the victim stated she could hear sirens and then stated she could see red and blue lights approaching the vehicle that located down in a ditch. The female had climbed from the vehicle and was on top when units arrived at 6:08 pm on the scene.

Firefighters worked to free the male occupant from the vehicle, the subject was transported to an area hospital but according to Walnut Ridge Chief Frank Owens did not appear to be injured and was transported just to be checked out. The female occupant of the vehicle was uninjured.

No names have been released, the incident is being investigated by the Walnut Ridge Police Department. Ray J’s Wrecker Service was requested to the scene to remove the vehicle from the water filled ditch.
