Shortly after 4:30 pm on Wednesday the Lawrence County Dispatch received multiple calls reporting a head on accident between Hoxie and Sedgwick on Hwy 63.

Early reports stated the two vehicle struck head on and both vehicles erupted into flames with the occupants inside.

Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies, Walnut Ridge Fire Department, Hoxie Fire Department, Sedgwick Fire Department, Arkansas State Police. Hoxie Police and medical units from Lawrence County and Craighead County were all dispatched to the area.

Responders reported large amounts of black smoke coming from the area of the crash that could be seen for miles. Witnesses stated victims were trapped inside the burning vehicles.

Once fire departments were on scene they worked to extinguish the blazing vehicles, Sheriff’s Deputies worked to block traffic and divert drivers from the area through Hwy 228 and Hwy 91. Hwy 63 was completely closed and remains closed at this time.

Unconfirmed reports from the scene state that there are as many as 3 fatalities in the accident.

The accident is being investigated by the Arkansas State Police.

The cause of the accident is undetermined at this time, no names have been released pending the conclusion of the investigation and notification of family.
