At 12:36 pm the Portia Fire Department along with Medic One Ambulance were the first units to clear the scene after a bomb threat was received earlier. The threat was made against an apartment on Church Street in Portia.

According to reports, a female received a voicemail stating their was some type of explosive at the apartment in Portia. The concerned female contacted the Lawrence County Dispatch and relayed the information. According to the caller a former tenant of the residence was named.

Authorities took all the precautions, they evacuated the other apartments, set up a safe perimeter and called for bomb detective resources to assist. Medical units were staged along with the Portia Fire Department in the interest of public safety.

Although the scene has been cleared, the investigation continues. Authorities are already questioning the recipient of the voicemail as well as others possibly involved or with information vital to the ongoing investigation.

There were no injuries reported in Friday’s incident, residents were allowed to return to their homes after a short time.

Authorities are still on scene gathering information.
