Third Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Henry Boyce announced today that James Dexter Yancy, 24, of Pocahontas appeared before Circuit Judge Kevin King today for his First Judicial Appearance after having been arrested in the early morning hours of Saturday, August 13, 2016. The arrest was the result of a shooting incident involving Yancy in which Nicholas Wayne Dawson was killed. Judge King set bond for Yancy at $10,000.00
Yancy is the son of a Pocahontas police officer. In order to avoid an appearance of a conflict of interest Boyce will petition the Court to appoint a Special Prosecuting Attorney to review the matter to make any charging decisions.
