Sunday at 5 pm is the deadline for signatures to be turned in in the Randolph County Wet/Dry issue. A group called Keep Revenue In Randolph has for 6 months been gathering signatures to have the issue placed on the November Ballot.
Earlier in the week there was some confusion surrounding some signatures and many were discarded by the Randolph County Clerk’s Office. At mid week reports were that the move was nearly 500 signatures shy of the necessary signatures. According to the Clerk’s Office some 900 signatures were discarded for various reasons.
With only 2 days remaining the issue is now only 200 signatures short and expected to have them over the weekend. Supporters of the measure state that a misinterpretation of the law regarding collections of signatures slowed the process and may have even cause some signatures to be thrown out.
We expect to hear early next week if the needed signatures were gathered, if verified and enough are collected the Randolph County Wet/Dry issue will be on the November ballot for voters to choose.
