In late July representatives of SouthBuild Firm along with Sheriff Jeff Yates and others gathered for opening bids on the future Lawrence County Jail construction project.

With the project being broken into some 20 projects bids were received for all but one of the projects. The one project with no bids will be rebid according to the firm overseeing the project.

Bid packages will now be reviewed and winners awarded projects or projects will be rebid if declined or not receiving bids.

Construction supervisors hope to have bids ready for the next Quorum Court meeting.

According to project managers, construction is expected to begin within 30 days of accepting bids.

The project is expected to take around 17 months to complete.
