A $5,000 grant through White River Planning and Development was awarded today by State Representative James Ratliff to Chief Chris Kirksey of the Walnut Ridge Police Department.
According to Chief Kirksey the funds will be used to upgrade and purchase new camera equipment for the patrol vehicles in the Walnut Ridge fleet. Kirksey stated that officers already use body cameras and some vehicles are equipped with cameras but adds this type of technology helps protect not only his officers but the residents of Walnut Ridge. The Chief went on to say that in the event of an incident occurring the video can be reviewed leaving little or no doubt as to what went on.
This is yet another upgrade to the Walnut Ridge Police Department implemented by Chief Kirksey, since his promotion to Chief the WRPD has upgraded it’s fleet including more visible graphics on the patrol cars and uniform changes that are more user friendly for the officers.
