At 11:20 pm on Saturday night the Lawrence County Dispatch received a 911 call reporting a shooting in Walnut Ridge. Walnut Ridge Police along with medical units were sent to the 600 block of Southwest 3rd street in Walnut Ridge.
Initial reports stated that a man had shot his wife in the chest after an altercation in the home. The suspect then called 911 and reported the incident. Walnut Ridge Police were on scene within minutes, the suspect reportedly surrendered to officers without further incident.
Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies, Hoxie Police and Walnut Ridge Fire assisted with the incident, a medical helicopter was requested to respond to the Lawrence Memorial helipad.
At 11:35 a white male suspect was transported to the Lawrence County Jail. Walnut Ridge Fire responded to Lawrence Memorial to assist with the helicopter. At 11:37 pm the ambulance left the scene in route to meet the medical helicopter. Units were clear from the scene at 11:57 pm, the helicopter transported the female gunshot victim to a Jonesboro hospital for treatment.
The incident is being investigated by the Walnut Ridge Police Department, names of those involved have not been released at this time.
