At 8:44 am on Friday the Lawrence County Dispatch received a call advising of a one vehicle accident on Hwy 63 at Martin Creek in Sharp County. Ravenden Fire was requested to assist in a recue after vehicle had driven off an embankment into the water and overturned.
Ravenden Fire, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies and members of the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Dive Team were ask to assist Williford and Hardy Rescue with the scene. Units from Lawrence County responded with requested ropes for rescue. Hardy Rescue arrived on scene with a small boat. Officers from Game and Fish made their way to the injured male who was on top of the overturned vehicle in the water. Hardy Rescue launched a small boat, the injured male was transferred to the boat and brought back to an awaiting ambulance. Once the injured male was loaded in the ambulance he was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries.
Dail’s Wrecker Service was requested to the scene to remove the vehicle, as this was being done a body was discovered still inside the submerged vehicle. Hwy 63 was closed as the vehicle and fatal victim were removed. Sharp County Sheriff’s Office, Ravenden Police Department, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Dive Team, Ravenden Fire Department, Williford Fire, Arkansas Game and Fish, Hardy Fire and Rescue and Arkansas State Police were all on scene. Sharp County Coroner was on scene at 10:15 am.
The vehicle was headed southbound on Hwy 63 when it left the roadway and plunged off an embankment into the waters of Martin Creek overturning. The accident is being investigated by the Arkansas State Police. Ravenden Fire Units stayed on scene assisting with traffic while the vehicle was recovered.
Names of the injured and deceased have not been released by the Arkansas State Police at this time, the investigation is still ongoing.
